Authorities apprehend 27-year-old suspect in connection with deadly knife attack at Adamawa hotel

A 27-year-old man has been apprehended by the Adamawa State Police Command in connection with the alleged murder of a woman at a hotel in Girei Local Government Area of the state.

The incident is said to have occurred at No Vex Hotel, Girei, on Friday, according to a statement issued by the command's spokesman, SP Suleiman Nguroje, on Saturday.

Following a report of an altercation at the hotel on 14th August 2026, police operatives from Girei Divisional Police Headquarters swiftly responded to the scene, where they found the victim with severe injuries and in a pool of blood.

The victim was immediately rushed to a medical facility, where she was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty, as stated in the command's statement.

The suspect, identified as Ali Haruna, of Bolori Ward, Maiduguri, Borno State, has been arrested in connection with the incident, with preliminary investigation revealing that he allegedly made statements claiming responsibility for the act.

The police are treating this as part of the ongoing investigation, working to establish the circumstances and motive behind the incident, and have recovered the knife allegedly used in the commission of the offence from the suspect.

The recovered knife will be treated as an exhibit, according to the command's statement, which also noted that the Commissioner of Police, Kabir Hassan, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case.

The department has been tasked with ensuring a discreet, thorough, and professional investigation, with the command assuring the public that anyone found culpable will face the full weight of the law.

The command has also urged the public to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and refrain from jungle justice, allowing the police to conclude their investigation.

However, an eyewitness claimed that the suspect had lodged at the hotel, which is owned by a retired police officer, on Friday afternoon and allegedly committed the murder by 5pm the same day.

The eyewitness further alleged that the suspect confessed to having killed the deceased, who was reportedly the third person he had killed this year.
