Atiku offers condolences to those affected by Lagos flooding

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress for the 2027 election, has offered his sympathies to those affected by the flooding in Lagos State, in a statement posted on his X handle on Tuesday.
nAtiku Abubakar expressed concern over the impact of the flooding on various groups, including families, commuters, motorists, and business owners, stating "I extend my heartfelt sympathy to the people of Lagos who have been affected by the ongoing flooding.
nHis thoughts are with those whose lives and livelihoods were disrupted by the flooding, as he said "My thoughts are with the families, motorists, commuters, business owners and everyone whose lives and livelihoods were disrupted by this unfortunate event,”.
nThe former vice president believes the incident highlights the need for solidarity during difficult times, and has prayed for the safety of those affected and a quick return to normalcy.
nAtiku Abubakar reflected on the importance of unity in the face of adversity, saying "At moments like this, we are reminded of the strength of our shared humanity and the importance of standing together in support of one another.
nHe also expressed his hope for a swift return to normalcy, stating "I pray for the safety of all, for a swift return to normalcy,”.
nThe message from Atiku Abubakar comes as areas such as Gbagada, Iyana Ipaja, Ikorodu Road, Ikeja, Maryland, Mushin, Ogudu, Lekki, Oshodi, Agege, Alimosho, and Obalende in Lagos experienced flash flooding from torrential rains that began on Sunday.
nThe flooding extended to sections of major roads, including the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, and Lekki-Epe Expressway, exacerbating traffic congestion across the state.
nAccording to authorities, the disruption is linked to overwhelmed drainage systems amid seasonal downpours.
