Arteta says ‘nothing to worry about over new Arsenal contract’

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has said there is “nothing to be concerned about” regarding his contract situation at the Premier League club.

Arteta, whose current deal is due to expire at the end of the 2026/27 season, gave the update while speaking ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League clash against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.

Asked if he was going to sign a new contract, Arteta said, “I think we are all very much aligned; whenever the time is right, we’ll get that done. There is nothing to be concerned about.”

The Spaniard was also asked about signing his previous contract two years ago during an international break and whether the timing of a new deal could follow a similar pattern.

“I don’t know if the timing will be the same or different, I think we both have the same ambition and the same will, so whenever we have time we’ll get that resolved,” he said in a pre-match conference on the club website on Friday.

Arteta has been Arsenal manager since December 2019 and has overseen the club’s return to the top end of the Premier League, winning the FA Cup in 2020 and guiding the Gunners to three consecutive runners-up finishes in the league between 2022/23 and 2024/25.

The manager also spoke about the club’s approach to developing and recruiting young players, saying Arsenal wanted to maintain its level by combining its academy pathway with recruitment.

“It’s us as a club, we know we want to constantly maintain this level and have the pathway already in-house – which is obviously the best way to bring players from the academy or youth teams to us,” Arteta said.

“We need to be one of the best in the world at recruiting in the country and abroad to maintain that level.”

Arteta’s comments came as Arsenal prepare to face Brighton in their final match before the extended international break.
