Army kills three terrorists in Katsina ambush, recovers weapons

Troops of the 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have neutralised three suspected terrorists during an ambush operation in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The operation, carried out by troops deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) FUDMA, took place along the Turare-Kitibawa-Kuka-Mai Damusa Road on Friday night.

This is contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 17 Brigade, Katsina, Captain Abayomi Adisa, and made available to journalists.

According to the statement, “In continuation of troops’ offensive operations against terrorists and other criminal elements in Katsina State, troops of 17 Bde deployed at FOB FUDMA took up blocking positions along Turare-Kitibawa-Kuka-Mai Damusa Road in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area.”

It added that “at about 2140hrs on 9 May 2026, a group of terrorists fleeing troops’ operations in Matazu general area were ambushed by the troops.”

The Army said the encounter resulted in casualties, noting that “three terrorists were neutralised while one AK-47 rifle, one magazine loaded with three rounds of ammunition, one motorcycle, three cutlasses, assorted charms and a cash sum of N3,500 were recovered.”

The statement added that troops have continued sustained operations against criminal elements in the area.

“Troops have sustained the offensive against the criminal elements with a view to restoring peace to the state,” it said, urging residents to provide credible intelligence to security agencies to support ongoing operations.
