Army armour school unveils tactics, crew courses to boost troop skills

The Nigerian Army has warned against all forms of malpractice as it commenced the Combined Second Quarter Courses 2026 at the Nigerian Army Armour School, Bauchi State.

The Commandant of NAAS, Major General Abubakar Ahmed, gave the warning on Tuesday during the inauguration ceremony held at the Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya Auditorium, Obienu Barracks in Bauchi state.

He was represented by the Deputy Commandant and Director of Studies, Brigadier General Alhassan Haruna, who addressed the new participants and emphasised discipline, focus, and professionalism throughout the training period.

“Continuous training remains critical to manpower development, operational efficiency, and combat readiness of troops,” he said.

Haruna described the courses as essential to producing highly skilled personnel for the Nigerian Army Armoured Corps, in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s Command Philosophy.

“Rigorous and realistic training is central to producing well-trained personnel for the Nigerian Army Armoured Corps,” he added.

He urged the students to remain committed to all training activities, noting that participation in lectures, exercises, and field events is compulsory.

“You are expected to be efficient, focused, and hardworking throughout your courses,” he said.

The Deputy Commandant also issued a strict warning against misconduct, particularly examination malpractice.

“Any form of examination malpractice will attract appropriate sanctions,” he warned.

He encouraged trainees to maintain high levels of physical, mental, and emotional fitness to ensure optimal performance during and after the courses.

Haruna also acknowledged the support of the military leadership, appreciating the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for logistical and financial backing, and the Commander Armoured Corps, Major General Umar Abubakar, for his continued support to the school.

The Combined Second Quarter Courses 2026 include several specialised programmes such as the Armour Young Officers Course, Tactics Instructors Course (Soldiers), Crew Commander Course, and multiple A2 Crewman courses covering reconnaissance, tank operations, weapons handling, communication, driving, and maintenance.

The ceremony featured the presentation of course outlines and the introduction of students by Colonel I.J. Etuk, Acting Director of the Tactics Department, and ended with a group photograph.
