Armed thieves fatally shoot Ondo repairman as he protects his loved ones

A deadly attack by suspected armed robbers in Akure, the Ondo State capital, has claimed the life of 47-year-old technician Idris Clement, with the state police command confirming the arrest of a suspect in connection with his death.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, when a four-man gang of armed robbers allegedly stormed Clement's residence in the Shagari area of Akure, attacking him and dispossessing his family of their valuables.

The robbers had earlier attacked residents and stolen their belongings, before invading Clement's home, where he was fatally shot, according to reports gathered on Sunday.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the state command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the incident on Sunday, stating that one suspect had been apprehended and was cooperating with detectives to investigate the crime.

Jimoh assured residents that the command would ensure justice was served, saying that efforts were underway to capture the remaining members of the robbery gang who were still at large.

A thorough investigation was ongoing, Jimoh added, and all those found guilty would be prosecuted, according to the police spokesperson.

AbdulFatai Clement, one of the deceased's sons, described the attack as devastating, recounting how the robbers had attacked two houses in the area before forcing their way into their family compound.

According to AbdulFatai, his father had attempted to defend the family, but was outnumbered and outgunned by the robbers, who attacked him with axes and cutlasses before shooting him with a gun.

The robbers fled immediately after the fatal shooting, and the family rushed the victim to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead due to excessive blood loss.

Mrs Taibat Clement, the deceased's widow, has appealed to the Ondo State Government and security agencies to ensure that those responsible for her husband's killing are arrested and brought to justice.
