Armed robbers fatally attack agricultural worker in Kwara village

A suspected bandit attack in Wodata community, via Zambufu in Kwara State, has resulted in the death of a farmer, identified as Amos, a tragic incident that has raised concerns about rural security.

The attack occurred around Jummat prayer time on Friday, according to PUNCH Online, which gathered details about the incident from a community source named Hassan.

Amos and his brother were harvesting cassava on their farmland when the bandits struck, with Amos on top of a tractor and others loading cassava, before the attackers were sighted and those on the ground fled for safety.

Amos was shot in the abdomen before he could dismount from the tractor, and was rushed to a nearby health facility, then referred to Ilorin for advanced treatment, but sadly died on the way due to excessive blood loss, as reported by the community source.

Nupeko Lafiagi TV lamented the poor state of medical infrastructure in the area, highlighting that the only available facility is a primary health centre in Zambufu with limited capacity to handle critical emergencies, which is less than one kilometre from Wodata village.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about the security of rural communities, especially farmers, and comes less than one kilometre from Wodata village, according to the source.

Efforts to get official confirmation from the Kwara State Police Command were unsuccessful, with the Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, stating that she had not been briefed about the incident but would provide information as soon as it becomes available.

The latest killing comes barely days after suspected bandits reportedly attacked Nuku village in Kaiama Local Government Area, where five forest guards were killed, further heightening concerns over rising insecurity in Kwara North.
