Approval from NBTE emboldens Oyo college, silences student troublemakers, says Owner

Sunday Owoseni, the Proprietor of Iseyin College of Science and Health Technology in Oyo State, alleged on Thursday that certain disgruntled individuals working with unauthorized private health and nursing colleges are fueling unrest among students regarding the institution's approval.

This claim was made in a statement issued by Owoseni in Ibadan, the state capital, where he described the recent listing of his college and the state College of Science Health and Technology, Eleyele, Ibadan, as the only two approved institutions by the National Board for Technical Education as a threat to unapproved colleges in the state.

Owoseni explained that some former staff members, who were let go due to their inability to adhere to the college's standards of accountability, discipline, and diligence, are now inciting students against the management.

These former employees have allegedly joined newly established colleges and are sowing discord among their former students, prompting them to protest against the college authorities.

A group known as Campaign For Better Public Health had previously, on Friday, April 3, 2026, urged the state Ministry of Education and the NBTE to investigate the proliferation of unauthorized health colleges in the state.

The group, in a statement released by its Director of Public Communication, Anthony Ojo, in Ibadan, claimed that only the state College of Health Science and Technology, Eleyele, in Ibadan and Iseyin College of Science and Health Technology are currently approved by the NBTE in the state.

Owoseni described the recent student protest over concerns about the authenticity of their certificates as unwarranted, stating that open communication with the school authorities would have alleviated their fears.

He noted that the protest was sparked by individuals who were previously employed by the college but were dismissed due to their unprofessional conduct, and are now collaborating with an unauthorized private college to spread misinformation among students.

Owoseni emphasized that the college has accredited courses and is working to obtain accreditation for others, while also engaging with students to prepare them for professional courses related to their programs.

He expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Executive Chairman of Iseyin Local Government, Rasaq Fadiran, the Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Sefiu Oyebola, the traditional council, security agencies, and other stakeholders in resolving the matter amicably.

Owoseni reiterated that the institution's primary goal is to promote education in Iseyin and the state, rather than pursuing financial gain.
