APC Screens and Approves 27 Candidates for Forthcoming House of Representatives Primaries in Anambra

The All Progressives Congress has given the green light to 27 aspirants to take part in the upcoming House of Representatives primary, which is now set to take place on Saturday, May 16, 2026, in Anambra State, as the country gears up for the 2027 general elections.

Senator Emmanuel Anosike, the party's chairman in Anambra, revealed this information to journalists after a private meeting with the aspirants and other party members at the state headquarters in Awka.

The closed-door meeting, which began at around 3 pm on Thursday, extended into the night, and it was during this time that the aspirants were screened by the APC screening committee to evaluate their eligibility and readiness to vie for the party's ticket.

The screening exercise was designed to assess the aspirants' suitability to represent the party across the various federal constituencies in Anambra State, according to Anosike.

Anosike explained that the primaries will be held across the different constituencies, and aspirants may be chosen either through consensus agreements or direct primaries, giving them two possible paths to emerge as candidates.

He emphasized that the party is fully prepared to conduct a free, fair, transparent, and credible primary election, demonstrating the APC's commitment to regaining its footing in the state.

Anosike also stated that party members across all 21 local government areas in the state are ready to select candidates who have the potential to make a meaningful impact in their respective constituencies during the voting process for the 2027 elections.

The APC initially planned to hold the House of Representatives primary election on Friday but has since postponed it by one day, with the new date now set for Saturday, May 16, 2026, while keeping the rest of the previously announced schedule intact.
