The All Progressives Congress in Kwara has rejected claims made by the Peoples Democratic Party that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq was involved in orchestrating the prosecution of former Senate President Bukola Saraki in connection with the 2018 Offa robbery incident.
APC Secretary in Kwara, Abdulwaheed Balogun, made this statement during a news conference in Ilorin on Saturday, labeling the allegations as melodramatic and baseless, and emphasizing the need to address the misinformation circulating about the situation.
Balogun's comments were in response to a statement by the PDP and Saraki, which accused Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of plotting the filing of charges against Saraki and three others in relation to the 2018 Offa armed robbery that resulted in the loss of over 30 lives.
According to Balogun, if Saraki and the PDP have no involvement in the incident, they should not be concerned, as the courts rely on evidence and facts, rather than public statements, to determine guilt or innocence.
Rather than resorting to personal attacks, Balogun stressed that the proper course of action would be for the defendants to face trial and allow the court to determine their guilt or innocence.
Balogun urged all parties to allow due process to take its course, citing that individuals familiar with the events of the period would attest to the facts.
He criticized statements that questioned the popularity of the current administration, noting that the residents of the state are in a position to assess the government's performance.
Balogun commended the state government for its resolve to pursue justice in the matter, which is already before a competent court, and emphasized that it is the responsibility of the judiciary to determine the case.
He warned against attempts to influence public opinion through media narratives, and instead urged the PDP to advise Saraki to clear his name through legal means rather than issuing statements that could undermine public institutions.
According to Balogun, no individual is above the law, and legal processes should not be substituted with media campaigns, emphasizing the importance of allowing the justice system to run its course.
The current administration remains focused on governance, including infrastructure development, healthcare improvement, and prompt payment of salaries and pensions, and will not be distracted by political criticism, Balogun said.
He reaffirmed the government's commitment to security, development, and justice in the state, underscoring its dedication to maintaining its priorities despite external pressures.
