APC axes two Rivers state legislators allied with Fubara

Two current members of the House of Representatives from Rivers State, Awaji Inombek Abiante and Boma Goodhead, have been barred from seeking re-election by the All Progressives Congress, as they were disqualified from participating in the party's primaries set for Saturday.

This decision was made alongside the disqualification of two other aspirants, Air Commodore John Opera and Anderson Igbiki, who are known supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Notably, Abiante was one of the prominent Rivers politicians who purchased a governorship form for Fubara, highlighting his connection to the governor.

The final list of aspirants, which included this information, was released by the party and sent to our correspondent on Friday.

Meanwhile, a total of 21 aspirants, including the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, were given the green light by the party to contest the primaries.

Amaewhule, who is vying for the Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency, is attempting to unseat his kinsman and Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Kingsley Chinda.

The state APC Publicity Secretary, Chibike Ikenga, issued a statement in Port Harcourt on Friday confirming the list of cleared and disqualified aspirants.

The statement, titled “Final List of Aspirants for the House of Representatives Primary Election for Saturday, 16th May, 2026”, was released by Ikenga, who noted that the list came from the national leadership of the party.

According to Ikenga, aspirants were advised to take note of the list and comply with it, as it is a crucial piece of information ahead of the scheduled election.

The statement from Ikenga reads in part, “You are by this notice informed of the release of the final list of aspirants for the House of Representatives primary election of our great party, the APC, scheduled for 16th May, 2026, as released by the National Leadership of the Party.

It further states, “Aspirants are kindly advised to note and comply accordingly, with the understanding that this information is critical in view of the election as scheduled, and the list of cleared and disqualified aspirants is attached for reference.
