Anambra's law enforcement team dismantles militant hideouts, seizes rocket-propelled grenade launchers

The Anambra State security outfit, Agunechemba Security Squad, has successfully dismantled suspected gunmen's camps in Orumba North and Orumba South Local Government Areas, resulting in the recovery of a significant arsenal, including two General Purpose Machine Guns and locally made rocket launchers.

The recovery of these arms was made possible through intelligence gathering and undercover operations conducted by Agunechemba operatives at major security flashpoints in Anambra South Senatorial District over the past few days, marking a substantial breakthrough in the fight against insecurity.

According to Mr Nweke Nweke, the Publicity Secretary of Agunechemba, the locally made rocket launchers have been handed over to the Nigerian Army, highlighting the outfit's commitment to collaboration with federal security agencies.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the operations of the Agunechemba Security Squad, reaffirming the Nigerian Army's commitment to partnering with other security agencies, including Agunechemba, to combat crime in the state.

The success of the operation is attributed to the intelligence gathering and undercover operations conducted by Agunechemba operatives in Anambra South Senatorial District, demonstrating the outfit's dedication to fighting crime and enhancing security in the state.

On Saturday, the handover of the recovered weapons took place at the office of Agunechemba's Director of Operations in Awka, led by Chief Chinenye Ihenko, who represented the Governor's Special Adviser on Community Security, Kenneth Emeakayi.

Ihenko emphasized the significance of collaboration between the military and Agunechemba, describing the transfer of the weapons as a demonstration of this partnership and pledging continued joint efforts to improve security in the state.

The operations that led to the recovery of the weapons represent a significant achievement for Agunechemba in the fight against criminality, with Ihenko assuring the public of the outfit's commitment to its responsibilities under the state's homeland security framework.

Ihenko praised the operatives for their success, noting that they suffered no casualties despite coming under attack from armed gunmen, and expressed appreciation to Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the support provided to Agunechemba.

The support from the governor has enabled Agunechemba to reclaim areas previously dominated by criminals, particularly in Orumba North and South, Ihiala, and Ogbaru LGAs, according to Ihenko, who urged residents to continue supporting Agunechemba in the fight against insecurity.

Also speaking at the event, the Commander of the 302 Artillery Regiment (General Support), Onitsha, Col. Buteus Yakubu, represented by Lt. P.O. Idowu, commended Agunechemba's achievements and expressed the Nigerian Army's pleasure with the collaboration among the military, the Nigeria Police Force in Anambra State, and Agunechemba.

The event concluded with the formal handover of two General Purpose Machine Guns and a locally made rocket launcher, followed by an exchange of pleasantries among personnel of the Nigerian Army, Agunechemba leadership, and members of the Anambra State House of Assembly.
