Anambra State Sees 35 Motorists Found Guilty by Federal Road Safety Corps

The Federal Road Safety Corps, RS5.3 Anambra State Sector Command, has successfully prosecuted 35 traffic offenders in a mobile court session held at the Sector Command Headquarters in Awka, the state capital, resulting in their conviction.

This conviction was achieved during a mobile court sitting on Friday, as announced in a press statement released on Saturday by Margaret Onabe, the Sector Public Education Officer of the FRSC Anambra State Command.

The exercise is part of the Corps' ongoing strategy to reduce road traffic crashes by enforcing strict compliance with traffic regulations and increasing operational visibility across the state, according to Onabe.

Chief Magistrate Adaora N. Okoli presided over the Mobile Court session, hearing cases against offenders apprehended during special enforcement operations conducted by FRSC personnel within the Command's operational corridors.

A total of 44 offenders were arraigned before the court, with 35 convicted and nine discharged and acquitted, following the prosecution of 72 traffic offences committed by the offenders.

No offender was sentenced to imprisonment, with the prosecuted offences including Seatbelt Violation, Speed Limit Device Violation, driver’s licence violation, Overloading, Tyre Violation, Vehicle Licence Violation, Number Plate Violation, and other related traffic offences.

The Mobile Court proceedings were conducted in a peaceful and orderly atmosphere, free from operational challenges, with adequate security provided by armed personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.

Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, the Sector Commander, reaffirmed the Sector Command's commitment to strict enforcement of traffic laws and prosecution of offenders as a deterrent against reckless driving and other violations that endanger lives on Nigerian roads.

Asekhauno urged motorists to comply with traffic regulations, ensure their vehicles are properly documented, and adopt safe driving practices to contribute to reducing road traffic crashes, injuries, and fatalities.

The Sector Commander reiterated that the command will continue to intensify enforcement operations, public enlightenment campaigns, and strategic collaborations with relevant stakeholders to ensure safer roads across Anambra State.
