Anambra man kills cousin, buries body in shallow grave

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Chukwudalu Ezeani, for allegedly killing his cousin, Chinedu Ezeani, and burying his body in a shallow grave in Afube village, Amichi, Nnewi South Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect was said to have committed the crime on August 1, 2025, at about 8 p.m. in his residence, before concealing the corpse within his compound for nearly eight months.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday, noting that the case was initially reported as a missing person incident at the Amichi Police Station.

According to him, operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, later revisited the case following credible intelligence, which led to the arrest of the suspect.

“Operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, have uncovered an eight-month-old case of a reported missing person with the arrest of one Chukwudalu Ezeani, aged 35 years, in connection with the murder of his cousin, Chinedu Ezeani, aged 52 years,” Ikenga said.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that on August 1, 2025, at about 8 p.m., the suspect allegedly killed the deceased at his residence in Afube village, Amichi, and buried the body in a shallow grave within his compound, thereby concealing the crime for about eight months,” he added.

Ikenga stated that the suspect confessed during interrogation and led detectives to the burial site, where the decomposing body was exhumed.

“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and led operatives to the burial site within his compound, where the corpse was exhumed,” he said.

He added that the remains had been deposited for forensic examination, while the suspect would be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The command reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice and urged members of the public to report suspicious activities promptly to the nearest police station.
