Anambra gives green light to novel strategy to combat erosion and address shortage of student accommodations

The Anambra State Government has given its seal of approval to a series of sweeping measures designed to bolster governance, broaden access to justice, and turbocharge development throughout the state, all under the umbrella of the "Solution 2.0" initiative.

As outlined in a press statement released on Tuesday, these measures will tackle pressing issues such as erosion, the student housing deficit, and other infrastructural concerns, according to Dr Law Mefor, the state Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation.

These decisions were made during the fifth Anambra State Executive Council meeting, which took place at Light House, Awka, on Monday, and were announced by Mefor, who also revealed that the government has greenlit the release of N551,911,205.81 for general external works on the permanent building at the Solution Innovation District in Awka.

The state government has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive governance and sustainable development, with new policy decisions and project approvals aimed at enhancing social cohesion, stimulating economic growth, and improving public service delivery across the state.

The Anambra State Executive Council's fifth meeting, held during the second term of the Prof. Chukwuma Soludo administration, saw the approval of far-reaching measures to deepen governance, expand access to justice, and accelerate development across the state under the "Solution 2.0" agenda.

Council gave its approval for the immediate activation of the "Soludozie Anambra Programme" under the Public-Private-Community Partnership model, which will bring together high-net-worth individuals and communities from all 179 communities in Anambra State to partner with the government in providing critical infrastructure, including roads, schools, and medical centers.

This initiative reflects the administration's recognition that sustainable development requires a collective effort from the government, the private sector, and the people, and will help to drive progress across the state.

In response to the growing number of students living off-campus, the state government has resolved to partner with private investors to provide adequate and affordable hostel accommodation in tertiary institutions across the state, with the hostels to be delivered through a "Build-Operate-Transfer" arrangement.

This arrangement will ensure that students have access to a safe and complete campus experience, with modalities for implementation taking effect immediately.

To ensure timely and fair resolution of complaints, the state government has approved measures to make the state's Grievance Redress Mechanism more robust and accessible to Ndi Anambra, which will receive, evaluate, and resolve disputes relating to human rights and service delivery between citizens and the Anambra State Government.

Ndi Anambra are advised to forward any grievances to the mechanism's website, and the Council has directed increased public awareness on the availability and use of "Small Claims Courts" in Anambra State.
