Anambra Assembly confirms 18 commissioners

The Anambra State House of Assembly has confirmed the 18 commissioner-nominees sent to the House by the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo on May 5.

The names of the commissioners include Ben Odoemena (Agriculture); Chukwukadibia Okoye, FCCA (Budget and Economic Planning); Udoji Amedu (Culture, Entertainment and Tourism); and Ekene Ogugua (Education).

Others are Clem Aguiyi (Environment); Izuchukwu M. Okafor (Finance); Afam Obidike (Health); Law Mefor (Information and Value Reformation); Tobechukwu Nweke, SAN (Justice/Attorney-General); Offornze Amucheazi, SAN (Lands); and Vin Ezeaka (Local Government and Community Affairs).

Also on the list are Prof. Charles Ofoegbu (Petroleum and Mineral Resources); Chijioke Oseloka Ojukwu (Physical Planning and Urban Development); Casmir Agummadu (Power); Okey Ezeobi (Works and Infrastructure); Eddy Ibuzo (Transport); Esther Onyekesi (Women Affairs and Social Development); and Patrick Agha, MBA (Youth Development and Sports).

They were confirmed by the lawmakers, on Wednesday, after the report presented by the Screening Committee, led by Noble Igwe, representing Ogbaru 1 constituency.

Before discharging the new commissioners from the plenary, the Speaker, Somtochukwu Udeze, charged them to be prudent in the discharge of their duties.

Udeze told them to bear in mind as they assume office, that leadership is a responsibility and for them to work collectively to ensure Anambra becomes a destination hub.

He said, “If Anambra will be a destination, I want all of us to work together. It is a new beginning from today in the state. Leadership is a responsibility, as you assume office, it exists on the table.

“Every decision you make, you must answer the question, how does it improve the lives of the people? You have to always make yourselves accessible to the people.”

Responding on behalf of other commissioners, Dr Law Mefor, thanked the Lawmakers and commended the governor, for finding them worthy of the positions.

Mefor assured them that they would not disappoint the people of the state in their new positions.

Soludo had presented the first batch of commissioner-nominees to the state House of Assembly for confirmation on May 5.
