Anambra ADC leader steps down following Obi's departure from the party

Mr Chris Nwosu, the Chairman of the African Democratic Congress in Anambra State, has stepped down from his position just one month after being elected, citing the departure of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, as the reason for his resignation.

Nwosu's election took place during the party's state congress, which was held at the Kyrie Events Centre in Awka, Anambra State, on April 11, 2026.

In a resignation letter dated May 2, addressed to the Chairman of ADC, Ozubulu Ward V, Ekwusigo LGA, Nwosu stated that his decision to resign was driven by Obi's exit from the party and his own desire to support Obi's aspirations for a "New and Working Nigeria".

The letter, which was obtained in Awka on Wednesday, formally announced Nwosu's immediate resignation from the African Democratic Congress, leaving no ambiguity about his decision.

According to the letter, Nwosu's resignation was a direct result of Obi's "unavoidable exit" from the party, as well as his personal desire to back Obi's genuine aspirations.

Nwosu expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunity to serve, albeit briefly, and acknowledged his emergence as state chairman before his resignation.

The African Democratic Congress had previously held its Anambra State congress at the Kyrie Events Centre in Awka, where new executives were elected by consensus and sworn in immediately.
