Alleged Ondo abduction suspect apprehended following daring escape by hostage who jumped from speeding car

A dramatic pursuit by the Ondo State Police Command resulted in the apprehension of Adegbenro Adeola, a suspected kidnapper, and the successful rescue of an abducted individual in Akure, the state capital.

The command's spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, revealed this information in a statement issued on Wednesday, stating that Adeola is a member of a gang responsible for terrorizing certain areas of the city.

According to the statement, the incident occurred on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, when police operatives on routine patrol along the Oba-Ile axis responded to a distress situation involving a man inside a moving vehicle.

The officers spotted a red Toyota Camry, from which a victim could be heard shouting for help, prompting them to swiftly mobilize and pursue the suspected vehicle.

DSP Abayomi Jimoh's statement explained that during the chase, the suspects forced the victim, later identified as Kayode Alaba, out of the moving vehicle in an attempt to evade arrest.

The police team continued their pursuit and successfully apprehended Adeola, while the other gang members fled the scene, and the vehicle used in the operation was also recovered.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had been abducted from his residence along Irese Road, Akure, prior to the police intervention, which ultimately led to his rescue.

Jimoh stated that the victim is currently receiving medical attention, while the arrested suspect has provided valuable information to aid ongoing investigations.

The case has been transferred to the Violent Crime Response Unit in Akure for further investigation and efforts to apprehend the fleeing accomplices.
