All Progressives Congress in Adamawa vets 115 hopefuls ahead of state legislative nominations

The Adamawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress screening committee has cleared 115 aspirants to participate in the state Assembly primaries, which are set to take place next Wednesday.

According to Victor Dogo, the state Publicity Secretary of the party, all aspirants who purchased nomination forms were given the green light to proceed with the contest, as confirmed in an exclusive telephone conversation on Friday.

Dogo emphasized that consensus arrangements among contestants are a private matter, and the party's primary focus is on conducting direct primaries as stipulated by the Electoral Act.

The party's stance on consensus is clear: if aspirants choose to step down in favor of another candidate, it is their personal decision, and the party will not intervene, Dogo explained.

In cases where only one aspirant is contesting, the party will declare them the winner, indicating that a consensus has been reached among the contestants, but where multiple candidates are vying for the position, direct primaries will be held to determine the winner.

Adamawa State is currently experiencing political tension, with some members of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri's cabinet and appointees backing Salihu Mustapha, while supporters of National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu are rallying behind Tijani Galadima.

Governor Fintiri's recent announcement that he would reveal his preferred governorship candidate on Friday has sparked a fresh crisis within the ruling APC, which was already on edge.

Last Tuesday, Fintiri stated that he would soon disclose his chosen candidate, remarking that he has the right to support any candidate of his choice, just like any other individual.

The governor vowed to utilize all available government resources to support his preferred candidate in the forthcoming general elections, emphasizing that he would do so for the benefit of Adamawa State residents.

Fintiri further pledged to dedicate all his energy to ensuring his chosen candidate emerges victorious in both the primaries and the general elections, even if it means giving his "last drop of blood".

Uba Danarewa, the spokesman for Ribadu's support group, stated last month that the group is backing Tijani Galadima and will not accept any other candidate.

Danarewa emphasized that the group is fully prepared for the direct primaries and is opposed to consensus, believing that the people of Adamawa should be the ones to decide their leader, rather than an individual.
