Nigeria’s renewable energy stakeholders have called for stronger partnerships, increased investment and supportive policies to accelerate access to clean energy, as All On Partnerships for Energy Access marked its 10th anniversary in Lagos.

The anniversary dinner and fireside chat brought together representatives from government, development finance institutions, the private sector, development organisations, academia and the renewable energy industry to review the organisation’s first decade of operations and discuss the future of energy access in Nigeria, according to a statement.

Representing the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Biodun Ogunleye, described All On as an important contributor to Nigeria’s renewable energy ecosystem.

Delivering the governor’s goodwill message, Ogunleye commended the organisation for demonstrating that underserved communities could attract sustainable investment and reaffirmed Lagos State’s commitment to creating an enabling policy environment that encourages innovation, investment and private sector participation in the electricity market.

The Chief Executive Officer of All On, Caroline Eboumbou, said the organisation had evolved from an ambitious vision into one of Nigeria’s leading impact investors and ecosystem builders, acknowledging the contributions of the founding Chairman, Dr Osagie Okunbor, the Board of Directors, partners, government institutions and host communities.

Reflecting on the organisation’s journey, Eboumbou said expanding energy access required more than financing businesses. “We realised very quickly that we needed to be more than just an investor. Building this market required us to combine catalytic capital with technical assistance, venture support, ecosystem development, and strategic partnerships. That is how lasting impact is created.”

According to the organisation, its investments have contributed to expanding energy access to nearly two million people through renewable energy projects.

A fireside discussion between Eboumbou and the Chief Executive Officer and Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Sustainable Energy for All, Damilola Ogunbiyi, examined the development of Nigeria’s off-grid energy sector over the past decade and the partnerships required to expand energy access across Africa.

Drawing on years of collaboration with All On, Ogunbiyi highlighted the role of institutions that build markets, strengthen businesses and mobilise investment beyond financing individual projects. Both speakers agreed that stronger partnerships, continued innovation, and sustained investment would be needed to expand reliable and affordable energy access across the continent.

The event also featured an impact assessment presented by Dalberg, which evaluated All On’s first decade of operations. According to the assessment, the organisation contributed to expanding energy access through catalytic investment, venture building, enabling finance and ecosystem development, while supporting business growth, market development and opportunities for underserved communities.

A second fireside discussion, moderated by the Chief Executive Officer of FundCo, Abiodun Oni, featured the Chief Executive Officer of Salpha Energy, Sandra Dozie, and the Country Delivery Lead (Nigeria) for the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet, Muhammad Wakil.

The panel discussed the opportunities and challenges facing Nigeria’s renewable energy sector, identifying local manufacturing, innovative financing, enabling policies, private sector investment, and strategic collaboration as key drivers of future growth.

The anniversary also featured awards recognising organisations and individuals for their contributions to Nigeria’s renewable energy ecosystem. Honourees included The Rockefeller Foundation, Nigeria Climate Innovation Centre, Sustainable Energy for All, the Rural Electrification Agency, the Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria, Shell Nigeria and Dr Osagie Okunbor.

Closing the event, All On said it would continue to focus on mobilising catalytic capital, strengthening businesses, fostering innovation and deepening partnerships to expand access to clean, reliable and affordable energy across Nigeria.
