Aliyu links Sokoto development projects to FG revenue

The Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has said states across the country are now receiving increased funding from the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Aliyu stated this on Wednesday in Bodinga Local Government Area of Sokoto State while flagging off the sale of food items at subsidised rates to rural residents and junior civil servants.

The initiative, according to the governor, is aimed at cushioning the effects of economic hardship by making essential food commodities available to vulnerable residents at affordable prices.

He attributed his administration’s ability to implement developmental projects and provide palliatives to what he described as improved funding accruing to states from the Federal Government.

“All the developmental projects we are executing in the state are as a result of the adequate funding we are receiving from the Federal Government,” Aliyu said.

He added, “Similarly, all the palliatives we have been providing to our people, including this sale of food items at subsidised rates, as well as the payment of salaries on the 18th of every month, are also as a result of the adequate funding we receive from the Federal Government.”

The governor urged residents of Sokoto State to disregard what he described as campaigns of calumny against Tinubu, while calling for support for the President’s bid to seek re-election in 2027.

Aliyu commended the Tinubu administration’s economic policies, describing them as “one of the best things to have happened to Nigeria.”

He also assured the President of his administration’s “total support” for his re-election bid in 2027.

On insecurity, the governor said his administration had continued to provide logistics and other forms of support to security agencies to strengthen their operations against banditry and other criminal activities across the state.

He cited the recent provision of 62 armoured vehicles, alongside more than 200 patrol vehicles and 2,000 motorcycles earlier donated to security agencies.

According to him, the measures were intended to enhance the operational capacity of security personnel and improve their ability to protect communities.

Aliyu, however, stressed that the government and security agencies could not successfully tackle insecurity without the cooperation of residents.

“We need to understand that addressing insecurity requires our collective support, and therefore, we must assist the security agencies with relevant information,” he said.

The governor also called on residents to expose suspected informants within their communities, alleging that such individuals provide bandits with information about developments and movements in rural areas.

“We must equally expose informants living among us because they provide the bandits with information on happenings in our rural communities,” he said.

He urged the people of Sokoto to continue praying for an end to insecurity in the state and across Nigeria.
