Akwa Ibom gov unveils 14.8km roads project in ex-gov’s community

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has inaugurated 14.8km of internal roads and 1.9km of discharge drains in Awa, the community of his predecessor, Udom Emmanuel, in Onna Local Government Area.

Eno also assured residents of more development projects in the area.

The project, which comprised 16 road sections, was initiated by the immediate past governor, Udom Emmanuel, in his community and completed by his successor, Umo Eno, as part of the state government’s infrastructure drive under the ARISE Agenda.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony on Monday, Eno described the road inauguration as special because Awa is the hometown of his predecessor and political father, Udom Emmanuel.

Eno said his decision to personally commission the project was an expression of respect for his predecessor and a continuation of the good works of his political father, adding that development should not be limited by political differences.

He said, “I have an affinity with Onna people, so we must continue to develop Onna. We are together, and we will continue to work together and bring development to our people.”

The governor commended the Chairman of Onna Local Government Area, Kufre Umoren, and the people for their support, assuring them that other ongoing projects in the area would be completed.

He explained that 26 projects were currently ongoing in Onna, including a hospital project which, upon completion, would provide laboratory facilities for the training of medical students.

“My administration will continue to commission completed projects across the state with more projects expected to be inaugurated between now and the commencement of my second term in office”, he explained.

Eno also listed the number of Onna indigenes serving in his administration, including the Commissioner for Finance, Accountant-General, Chief Press Secretary and Chief Photographer, describing their appointments as evidence of the cooperation between his administration and the people of the area.

Earlier, the Chairman of Onna Local Government Area, Kufre Umoren, in his welcome address, described the community of ex-Governor Udom Emmanuel as a practical example of “Akwa Ibom United,” as the people had continued to live peacefully despite political differences.

Umoren commended Eno for his development initiatives in the area, particularly road projects, compassionate interventions, model primary schools and healthcare facilities.

“We appreciate Umo Eno for the projects, and we promise our continuous support from the people of Onna to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Governor Umo Eno ahead of 2027”, he said.
