Air Peace grounds flights to Benin due to airport runway shutdown

Air Peace has halted all flight operations to and from Benin Airport, citing the temporary shutdown of the airport's runway due to a recent incursion, and this decision is set to impact all scheduled flights to the airport.

The airline announced this suspension in a statement released on Thursday, emphasizing that the move was unavoidable due to factors beyond its control, and apologized for the inconvenience this may cause to its passengers.

In its statement, Air Peace expressed regret over the disruption, stating that the temporary closure of the runway led to the suspension of all flights to and from the airport, and appealed for patience and understanding from affected passengers as airport authorities work to resume normal operations.

The suspension comes on the heels of an incident involving an Enugu Air Embraer E170 aircraft, operating as Flight 4264 from Lagos to Benin, which was involved in a runway excursion after landing at Benin Airport on Thursday.

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau has launched an investigation into the incident, confirming that all 63 passengers and five crew members on board were safely accounted for, with no reported injuries.

A preliminary report on the incident is expected to be released within 30 days, in accordance with regulatory requirements, as the investigation continues.
