Adeleke's win indicates electorate's willingness to stand by their choice, says Kano NDC gubernatorial hopeful

The Kano State governorship candidate of the National Democratic Congress, Aminu Gwarzo, has said the re-election of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, demonstrated that political power ultimately belongs to the electorate.

Gwarzo stated this in an interview with PUNCH Online on Sunday, while reacting to Adeleke’s victory in the Osun State governorship election held on Saturday.

He congratulated Adeleke and the people of Osun State, saying the election demonstrated the strength of democracy and the determination of citizens to defend their mandate.

“The people have defended their mandate and demonstrated their resolve to protect the democratic process,” Gwarzo said.

He added that the election showed that democracy remained firmly in the hands of the people, whose choices must be respected.

“They exercised their democratic rights and reaffirmed that democracy is truly working. Their participation has shown that the power ultimately belongs to the people, whose voices must be respected and whose choices must be upheld,” he stated.

Gwarzo said Adeleke’s victory was also an indication of what the NDC could achieve in Kano in the 2027 governorship election.

“The victory in Osun is a clear signal that the people are ready to defend their mandate, and we believe the same spirit will be witnessed in Kano in 2027,” he said.

The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke the winner on Sunday after he polled 511,067 votes on the platform of the Accord Party to defeat the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who scored 444,811 votes.

The candidate of the African Democratic Congress came third with 17,180 votes.
