Adeleke's team files complaint with Inspector General regarding Fadahunsi's alleged call to harm Accord party supporters

The Imole Campaign Council, which is the official campaign organisation of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has called on Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu to immediately provide protection for members and supporters of the Accord Party ahead of the governorship election on Saturday.

This demand was made in a petition sent to the Inspector-General on Wednesday, following alleged inflammatory comments made by Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, in a video that has been circulating on social media.

Although Senator Fadahunsi has denied making the statement, he was still invited by the Osun State Police Command, and he honoured the invitation.

The petition, which was signed by the council's spokesman Pelumi Olajengbesi, claims that if the comments are authenticated, they pose a serious threat to the lives of Accord members and supporters, particularly those in Ilesa and other parts of Osun East Senatorial District.

Olajengbesi is also demanding that adequate security personnel be deployed to protect Accord members and supporters before, during, and after the election, especially in Ilesa and Osun East.

According to the petition, members and supporters of Accord, particularly in Ilesa and other parts of Osun East Senatorial District, are entitled to protection from the Nigeria Police Force regardless of their political affiliation.

The petition states that no Nigerian should have to fear being attacked or killed because of the political party they support, and no eligible voter should have to choose between exercising their right to vote and protecting their life.

The Imole Campaign Council is urging the Inspector-General to immediately deploy appropriate security measures to protect members and supporters of Accord and other political parties, particularly in Ilesa and Osun East Senatorial District, before, during, and after the August 15 Governorship Election.

The council is also asking the Inspector-General to ensure that polling units, collation centres, and other strategic electoral locations receive adequate and impartial police protection, allowing voters to exercise their franchise without intimidation or harassment.

If the investigation and authentication of the evidence establish reasonable grounds to suspect that an offence has been committed, the petition demands that the Inspector-General exercise the lawful powers of the Nigeria Police Force, including arresting Senator Francis Ade Fadahunsi and any other person found culpable, and commencing appropriate criminal proceedings in accordance with the law.

The Imole Campaign Council insists that it is not trying to prejudge Senator Fadahunsi, but rather emphasizing that allegations involving threats to lives and the electoral process require urgent attention from the police.

The council believes that holding political office should never provide immunity from investigation, and it is seeking to ensure that all allegations are thoroughly investigated and addressed.
