Additional arrest made in connection with murder of British-based Nigerian teen

A fresh development has emerged in the fatal shooting of 14-year-old Eghosa Ogbebor, a British-Nigerian teenager, in London's Woolwich area, with the Metropolitan Police Service announcing that a second teenager has been charged in connection with the incident.

The latest suspect, a 15-year-old boy, was taken into custody on Wednesday, May 6, and subsequently charged with murder, with his identity withheld due to legal reasons.

Prior to this new charge, three teenagers had been arrested in connection with Eghosa's shooting, which occurred on April 2, as initially reported by PUNCH Metro.

Emergency responders had rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the shooting at around 3:40 pm, where they found Eghosa with severe gunshot injuries, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the scene despite their efforts.

The newly charged suspect is set to appear before the Barkingside Youth Court, as part of the ongoing investigation into the incident that took place on Thursday, April 2.

Following reports of a shooting, officers were dispatched to Lord Warwick Street, where they, along with paramedics from the London Ambulance Service, discovered Eghosa with severe injuries.

A statement from the Metropolitan Police confirmed that an investigation was launched on Thursday, April 2, after officers responded to reports of a shooting, and upon arrival, they found Eghosa with serious injuries, who sadly died at the scene.

Eghosa's family continues to receive support from specially trained officers, according to the Metropolitan Police, as they navigate this difficult time.

This new charge marks the second filed in connection with Eghosa's killing, with a 16-year-old boy from Romford having been previously charged with murder on Friday, April 10.

The 16-year-old boy was remanded in custody after appearing before the Thames Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, April 11, while several other suspects arrested in connection with the case have been released on bail pending further investigations.

On Saturday, April 4, a 19-year-old man was arrested in Woolwich on suspicion of murder, and a 46-year-old man was also taken into custody on suspicion of assisting an offender, with both being released on bail pending further enquiries.

Additionally, two boys, aged 14 and 16, and an 18-year-old man, were arrested on Friday, April 3, in connection with Eghosa's death, and they have also been bailed pending further enquiries, as the investigation remains ongoing.
