Adamawa, Taraba Customs generate N156.5m in three months

The Nigeria Customs Service, Adamawa/Taraba Area Command, generated more than N156.49 million in revenue within three months under the leadership of Comptroller Mohammed Tako, who assumed office in December 2025.

Documents made available to The PUNCH on Monday showed that the command also intensified anti-smuggling operations, resulting in the seizure of petroleum products, second-hand clothing, raw donkey skin, dried donkey meat and unregistered pharmaceutical products.

Tako warned smugglers and their collaborators to desist from illegal activities, saying the command had strengthened intelligence-driven operations across border communities and major smuggling routes in the two states.

“The Nigeria Customs Service will continue to safeguard the nation’s economic interests and ensure strict compliance with extant laws,” he said.

“Anyone found engaging in smuggling or aiding such activities will face the full weight of the law.”

According to the documents, the command recorded major seizures between December 2025 and April 2026.

In December 2025 and January 2026, operatives intercepted 1,868 jerrycans and one drum containing about 50,495 litres of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly known as petrol, as well as 10 bales and two sacks of second-hand clothing.

The seized items had a combined Duty Paid Value of ₦58.12 million.

The documents further showed that between February and April 2026, the command seized an additional 1,288 jerrycans and three drums containing about 32,860 litres of petrol, 112 jerrycans of Automotive Gas Oil (diesel), 43 jumbo sacks of second-hand clothing, 509 raw donkey skins, 460 kilogrammes of dried donkey meat, and cartons of unregistered Viagra tablets.

The command said the seizures were made during intelligence-led operations conducted along the Mubi-Sahuda, Daware-Fufore, Fufore-Gurin, Toungo-Ganye, Likitaba-Gembu, Mahia-Belel and Savannah-Numan corridors.

Tako reiterated the command’s commitment to sustaining the crackdown on smuggling and other cross-border crimes, stressing that officers would continue to deploy intelligence and surveillance to protect the nation’s economy.
