Abduction: Oyo makes U-turn, lifts curfew in 10 LGAs

The Oyo State Government has lifted the curfew earlier imposed on 10 local government areas as part of measures to facilitate the rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers of schools in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

The development was announced in a statement issued on Saturday by the Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, who said the decision followed a review of the security situation in the affected areas.

“The Oyo State Government has lifted the curfew imposed on 10 local government areas following the recent kidnapping incident in Oriire. Residents can now resume their normal activities,” the statement read.

Oyelade, however, assured residents that the state government would continue to monitor developments closely and work with security agencies to ensure lasting peace and safety.

He added that efforts were ongoing to resolve the kidnapping incident and prevent a recurrence.

The government had on June 24 imposed a 16-hour curfew across the affected local government areas before extending the restriction by an additional day on Thursday.

Although the government did not provide further details on the outcome of the ongoing security operations, it urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing credible information that could enhance public safety.
