Abducted Abuja corps member regains freedom

An Abuja-based lawyer and National Youth Service Corps member, Eunice Ameh, has regained her freedom days after she went missing.

Human Rights lawyer, Festus Ogun, confirmed her release in a post on X handle on Sunday.

Ogun said her freedom was not achieved without a financial demand being met.

Ameh was reportedly abducted on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, in the Maitama area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, shortly after closing from work.

She was eventually released and found on Sunday.

The lawyer wrote, “Eunice, the Abuja lawyer earlier abducted, has been freed, after payment of ransom.”

According to SaharaReporters, a family source also confirmed earlier on Sunday that she had been found alive.

“Eunice has been found unharmed this morning (Sunday),” the source said.

Her disappearance had triggered widespread concern within the Nigerian Bar Association, which publicly demanded urgent action from security agencies.

The NBA President, Afam Osigwe, in a statement on Saturday night, described the incident as deeply personal to lawyers across the country.

“When a young lawyer goes missing, the pain is not distant to the Nigerian Bar Association; it is personal.

“We are more than a professional body; we are a community bound by shared sacrifice, shared dreams, and a collective duty to stand for one another,” the statement read.

Reports revealed that Ameh had recently started working as a Sales Manager with Blades and Butchers Ltd, a company located on Lake Chad Crescent in Maitama, Abuja.

She was said to have resumed the job only a few weeks before her abduction, while also preparing to complete her NYSC assignment.

According to family accounts, she was last seen at about 5:40 p.m. on the day of her disappearance while heading home from work towards Life Camp, where she resides in a corps members’ lodge.

The incident was promptly reported to the Maitama Police Division, while NYSC officials were also informed as search efforts began, SaharaReporters had reported.
