2027: PDP in Kwara State Announces Running Mate for Governorship Election

The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has formally introduced Reverend Cornelius Fawenu as the running mate to its governorship candidate, Bolakale Kawu, in the upcoming 2027 governorship election.

This announcement was made public through a statement released on Wednesday in Ilorin by the party's State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Adewara, outlining the details of Fawenu's selection.

According to Adewara, Fawenu's emergence as the running mate was the result of thorough consultations with party leaders and stakeholders across the state's three senatorial districts.

Kawu had previously communicated his choice of Fawenu as his preferred deputy governorship candidate in a letter addressed to the state chairman of the party, following extensive discussions with party stalwarts and key stakeholders.

In the letter, Kawu described Fawenu as a leader with proven integrity and exceptional leadership qualities, citing his humility, compassion, and ability to inspire confidence.

Fawenu, an indigene of Babaloma in Ifelodun Local Government Area, is currently the Kwara South Senatorial Chairman of the party, and will pair with Kawu, the Daniyan of Ilorin, to form the party's governorship ticket.

The selection process was thorough and inclusive, involving the governorship candidate and critical stakeholders from Kwara North, Kwara Central, and Kwara South senatorial districts, according to the party.

The party stated that Fawenu's emergence followed a rigorous selection process involving the governorship candidate and stakeholders from the three senatorial districts, reflecting the party's commitment to presenting a competent and inclusive ticket.

The PDP emphasized that the Kawu-Fawenu ticket combines experience, innovation, grassroots engagement, and religious balancing, positioning the party to rescue and secure Kwara and its people from misgovernance and insecurity.

Fawenu, a 53-year-old cleric, was among four prominent personalities considered for the deputy governorship position before emerging as the preferred choice, based on his leadership credentials and contributions to peaceful governance.

A graduate of Biochemistry from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Fawenu is the Presiding Pastor of Oasis of Wisdom Bible Church, Ilorin, and a former Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria, with over 23 years of experience in ministry.

During his time in ministry, Fawenu has championed interfaith dialogue, promoted peaceful Muslim-Christian coexistence, and worked with traditional institutions and communities to advance peace and sustainable development.

The party expressed confidence that the Kawu/Fawenu ticket possesses the competence and integrity needed to govern the state, should they be elected, and is well-positioned to rescue Kwara State from hardship and insecurity.

The PDP called on all members of the party, supporters, and well-meaning Kwarans to rally behind the Kawu/Fawenu ticket as the movement to reclaim and reposition Kwara State gains momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
