2027: Obi and Kwankwaso to Appear on Voting Slate, Backers Reassured by Obidient Movement

The Obidient Movement has given its assurance to supporters that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, will be on the ballot for the 2027 general elections, despite recent political and legal developments.

Dr Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the movement, made this assurance at a press conference in Abuja on Monday, where he addressed fears that the opposition coalition might be derailed by these developments.

A recent judgment by Justice Isah Dashen of the Federal High Court in Lokoja, which set aside a December 10, 2025, judgment directing the Independent National Electoral Commission to register the NDC as a political party, had sparked concerns among supporters.

The judge's decision was based on the fact that the earlier judgment affected the rights of the Peace Movement Party, which claimed ownership of the logo used in obtaining the registration order but was not joined in the suit.

According to Dr Tanko, the alliance between Obi and Kwankwaso remains strong and will not be weakened by attempts to frustrate it, and he reassured supporters that the coalition is intact and growing stronger.

Dr Tanko stated, "We want to reassure our supporters that the coalition is intact and growing stronger, and Mr Peter Obi and Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso will be on the ballot in 2027, as no amount of intimidation or legal manoeuvring can stop the will of the people."

The Obidients national coordinator acknowledged concerns arising from recent court pronouncements and political tensions, but insisted that the opposition would continue to pursue its goals through lawful and peaceful means.

The movement is determined to offer Nigerians an alternative to the ruling party, and Dr Tanko said, "We are building a broad-based movement that reflects the aspirations of ordinary Nigerians, and our focus is to rescue the country through democratic engagement, not violence or division."

Dr Tanko urged supporters to remain calm, united, and committed to the democratic process, and added that the movement would continue to defend the rights of its leaders and members.

The movement's national coordinator also called on the Federal Government and political actors to respect the independence of the judiciary and allow the electoral process to remain free and fair, saying, "We are asking all institutions to do the right thing, as democracy thrives when the people are allowed to choose their leaders without interference."

Ahead of the 2027 elections, the movement said it would intensify consultations and promised to keep supporters informed as the coalition structure evolves.

Peter Akah, the NDC House of Representatives aspirant for the Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency of Cross River State, also known as Randy Peter, assured Nigerians that Obi and Kwankwaso will be on the ballot in 2027.

Akah argued that the legal challenge facing the NDC was targeted at stopping the party's presidential candidate, and he emphasized that the 2027 battle is between a corrupt political class and over 200 million victims of failed leadership.

He said, "If Mr Peter Obi does not become president tomorrow, I’m not sure he has a lot to lose in his personal life, but many of us here seated as young people have a lot to lose if Nigeria does not work, so as a people, we must know that this is a battle against our own lives."

Akah pointed out that Obi's presence in a party often leads to problems, citing his experiences in the Labour Party and the ADC, and he urged people to get their PVC, saying, "Our leader, Peter Obi, and Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso will be on the ballot."
