2027: Nasarawa Governor Throws Weight Behind Wadada as Favourite to Take Over

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has announced Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada as his chosen successor for the 2027 governorship election, a decision made after thorough deliberations.

This declaration was made on Thursday at a gathering of political appointees and government agency heads at the Government House in Lafia, where Sule outlined the meticulous process that led to Wadada's selection.

Sule revealed that the decision-making process spanned over a year, involving extensive consultations with various stakeholders, including investors, youth groups, women's organisations, traditional rulers, and party officials across the three senatorial districts.

The consultations initially considered multiple candidates before narrowing down to three potential aspirants, each deemed capable of winning the election, with Wadada ultimately emerging as the preferred candidate.

According to Sule, the selection process was rigorous, with the goal of identifying an individual with the capacity to secure victory in the election, and Wadada was chosen after careful evaluation.

Sule noted that aspirants from the Nasarawa West Senatorial District had agreed to support the chosen candidate, while also expressing concerns about the distribution of elective positions within their zone, to which the governor expressed his support.

The governor urged his appointees to set aside personal interests and rally behind the party's candidate, emphasizing the importance of unity and collective support for Wadada's candidacy.

Sule cautioned against disparaging other aspirants, emphasizing that the decision to support Wadada did not imply superiority, as all considered candidates were deemed capable of winning the election.

Expressing confidence in the party's prospects, Sule predicted that President Bola Tinubu would perform strongly in Nasarawa State during the 2027 presidential election.

Secretary to the State Government, Labaran Shuaibu Magaji, affirmed that the appointees were prepared to support the governor's position and back Wadada's candidacy.

Wadada, the current representative of Nasarawa West Senatorial District, holds his position on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
