2027: LP Would Emerge Victorious in Abia State if INEC Held Elections Now, Says Party Chairman

Mr Peter Azubuike, the Chairman of the Labour Party in Abia State, has expressed confidence that the party will achieve a landslide victory in the 2027 general elections, asserting that it would emerge victorious "before 2 pm" if the Independent National Electoral Commission were to conduct an election today.

Azubuike made this statement on Monday while addressing journalists at the LP State Secretariat in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, where he noted that the party had resolved its internal crises and was now fully mobilised for the next electoral cycle.

The Labour Party chairman described the party as the most grassroots-driven in the state, citing its current electoral footprint as evidence of its dominance, with 184 councillors, 17 local government chairmen, and 20 members of the Abia State House of Assembly.

Azubuike claimed that if the Independent National Electoral Commission were to conduct an election today, the Labour Party would win "before 2 p.m." due to its strong grassroots presence, which he believes sets it apart from other parties.

The party's adoption of the direct primary system, according to Azubuike, was aimed at ensuring transparency and avoiding rancour in the selection of candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.

Azubuike dismissed reports that only one nomination form had been sold in some constituencies, stating that multiple aspirants had purchased forms in several constituencies, and not all sitting lawmakers had secured the ticket.

He cited the Osisioma/Obingwa/Ugwunagbo Federal Constituency as an example, where the incumbent did not receive the return ticket, further debunking the claims of limited nomination form sales.

The Labour Party, Azubuike said, has invested heavily in building its structures from the ward to the state level, which has bolstered its confidence in achieving another "massive victory" in 2027.

Azubuike also affirmed that the Senator Nenadi Usman-led national leadership is the faction recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission, adding that the party has been granted access to the INEC portal to upload candidates, confirming its legitimacy with the electoral body.

The Labour Party chairman reaffirmed the party's commitment to internal democracy, grassroots mobilisation, and effective leadership as it intensifies preparations for the 2027 elections.
