2027: Kwara NDC Tells Electorate to Shun Patronage and Political Corruption

The Nigeria Democratic Congress in Kwara State has urged residents to shun godfatherism, imposition of candidates, and incompetent leadership as the 2027 general elections approach, according to a statement issued by the party's State Publicity Secretary, Ibraheem Gbagba, on Saturday.

This call to action comes as the state stands at a critical political crossroads, with voters being advised to prioritize competence, credibility, and integrity over political influence, Gbagba's statement noted.

For years, Kwara State has struggled with poor governance, unemployment, inadequate infrastructure, and limited economic opportunities, which the party says was reflected in the 2019 "O To Ge" movement, a desire for change among the people.

However, the party emphasized that changing political parties alone does not guarantee good governance, citing the experiences of the past few years as evidence.

The statement highlighted that the people of Kwara State have endured poor governance, underdevelopment, unemployment, and inadequate infrastructure for decades, prompting them to embrace the "O To Ge" movement in search of transformation and prosperity.

In response to the state's challenges, the NDC argued that leaders with proven competence, character, capacity, and compassion are required to bring about meaningful change.

The party posited that merely changing political parties is not enough, and that the true solution lies in electing leaders with the necessary qualities to understand and address the needs of the people.

As Kwara State stands at another historic crossroads, the NDC has presented candidates with the experience, integrity, vision, and commitment required to move the state forward, having emerged through democratic processes and enjoying community support.

The party called on residents to reject anti-democratic practices, including godfatherism, imposition of candidates, incompetence, and poor leadership, ahead of the elections.

The NDC urged Kwarans to reject politics of personal interest over public service and the recycling of failed politicians who have contributed to the state's challenges.

The party believes that political power should belong to the electorate, rather than a privileged few, and is committed to building a government that prioritizes youth empowerment, agriculture, education, healthcare, business growth, and prudent management of public resources.

The NDC's vision for the state includes building a government that works for everyone, where youths are empowered, farmers are supported, businesses thrive, education is strengthened, healthcare is accessible, and public resources are managed with transparency and accountability.

The party enjoys the support and guidance of respected national figures, including Senator Seriake Dickson, Mr Peter Obi, and Engr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who are committed to promoting people-centred governance.

The NDC appealed to various groups across the state, including youths, women, traditional institutions, professionals, artisans, traders, students, and community leaders, to support its candidates in the 2027 elections.
