2027: Bamidele vows to deliver 10m S’West votes for Tinubu’s re-election

The Leader of the Senate, Opeyemi Bamidele, has pledged to mobilise at least 10 million votes from the South-West geopolitical zone for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

He made the pledge on Monday while congratulating Tinubu on his emergence as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress following the party’s presidential primary.

Tinubu secured a landslide victory in the primary conducted nationwide on Saturday, polling 10.99 million votes to defeat his sole challenger, Stanley Osifo, who garnered 16,503 votes.

In a statement issued in Abuja by his media team, Bamidele expressed confidence that the APC would secure another victory in the 2027 presidential election.

He said, “In my capacity as the Leader of the Senate, I assure you of at least 10 million votes from the South-West geopolitical zone of the country. The machinery to deliver those votes is already in motion.”

Continuing, the Senate Leader stated that Tinubu’s emergence as the APC standard bearer would further consolidate the ongoing reforms aimed at repositioning Nigeria’s economy and infrastructure.

“I am therefore confident that your candidacy will help to fine-tune ongoing reforms across all sectors of the country and make us a prosperous nation. Your track records show that you are an agent of change,” he stated.

According to him, Tinubu assumed office at a difficult period in Nigeria’s economic history but demonstrated courage by implementing tough policy decisions.

“You became President when Nigeria’s economy was at its lowest ebb. You didn’t shy away from taking tough decisions. Rather, you prioritised critical actions to secure future generations.

“You took the bull by the horns and confronted the problems head-on. This decisiveness has sparked economic progress in virtually every facet of our national life. No state is borrowing just to pay salaries any longer,” he said.

Bamidele also highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects under the Tinubu administration, including the 750-kilometre Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the 1,068-kilometre Sokoto-Badagry Highway, describing them as strategic projects that would boost national connectivity and economic growth.

He further cited achievements in the education sector through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, noting that over 1.1 million students had registered under the scheme, while loans worth about N242bn had been disbursed to tertiary institution students.

On the economy, Bamidele said Nigeria’s crude oil production had increased from 1.273 million barrels per day in April 2023 to 1.71 million barrels per day in May 2026.

He also claimed that the country’s foreign reserves rose from $35.09bn in June 2023 to $49.49bn in May 2026, while the economy recorded steady growth rates over the past three years.

“Under his administration, Nigeria’s economy has consistently grown, first by 2.74 per cent in 2023; 3.4 per cent in 2024; 3.9 per cent in 2025 and 3.89 per cent in the first quarter of 2026,” he added.
