2027: ADC Reveals Why Tinubu Has Cause for Concern

The African Democratic Congress has issued a warning to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to be mindful of a potential electoral defeat in 2027, as the widespread hardship and deteriorating living conditions have significantly eroded public trust in his administration's policies.

The warning was conveyed in a statement released on Friday by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, who noted that President Tinubu appears to be increasingly disconnected from the harsh realities of hardship, insecurity, and frustration that millions of Nigerians are facing.

President Tinubu's response to criticism from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, as well as former governors Peter Obi and Rotimi Amaechi, among other African Democratic Congress leaders, was that he cannot be intimidated, and he accused the coalition figures of attempting to privatize the ADC, describing their gathering as a "street convention" during the party's national convention on April 14.

The ADC described President Tinubu's comments as unpresidential, alleging that he seems more focused on politics while many Nigerians continue to struggle with worsening poverty and increasing vulnerability to insurgency and kidnappings.

The party stated that President Tinubu's comments at the Presidential Villa concerning the ADC and the state of the opposition did not convey the confidence of a leader in control, but rather the anxiety of a President who is increasingly disconnected from the reality of hardship, insecurity, and frustration facing millions of citizens.

According to the ADC, at a time when families are battling a historic cost-of-living crisis, food inflation, rising debt burdens, and collapsing purchasing power, President Tinubu chose to mock the opposition instead of addressing the suffering of Nigerians, even as reports of children being abducted from examination centers were circulating.

The party emphasized that the President should not be ridiculing the opposition, but rather should be deeply concerned that the majority of Nigerians have rejected his government, whose ill-conceived policies have ruined lives and destroyed livelihoods, and that these are the reasons he should be scared, because the people are determined to vote him out.

The ADC also dismissed what they described as a misleading account of the party's National Convention, stating that they did not hold their convention on the street, and that if this was the story supplied to the President by agents of disruption, then he has been misinformed.

The party noted that even if any opposition party were forced to gather outside established venues, Nigerians would understand why, given that under this administration, democratic space has shrunk significantly, and no government before now had denied political parties fair access to public venues such as Eagle Square.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was also criticized for assuming the role of interpreter of the law, political referee, and commentator on judicial matters, with the ADC stating that he cannot be a President and a judge at the same time.

The party accused the President of recently trying to win over supporters of the late Muhammadu Buhari, saying it was hypocritical to distance himself from Buhari's record in the past only to reverse course ahead of the election.

The ADC emphasized that the issue before the country today is simple: hardship is rising, insecurity is worsening, debt is mounting, and hope is fading, and that no amount of political theatre can hide that truth.

The party remains focused on building a credible alternative anchored on competence, security, prosperity, and democratic freedom, with the ADC stating that Nigerians deserve better than excuses, propaganda, and power games.
