20-year-old nabbed for alleged defilement, robbery of Bauchi girl

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Isiyaku Usman, for allegedly defiling a seven-year-old girl and stealing two mobile phones from her in Darazo Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

Habib said the suspect allegedly lured the girl into an uncompleted building, where he allegedly dispossessed her of the phones before sexually assaulting her.

He said the incident occurred on September 6, 2026, after the victim’s 37-year-old father, a resident of Kari village, Darazo, reported the matter to the police.

The statement read in part, “On the same date at about 0800hrs, the victim was on her way to a neighbouring house with two Android phones of the same make, Techno A31, when one Isiyaku Usman ‘m’, 20-years-old, of the same address, lured her into a nearby uncompleted building, robbed her of the phones and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her.”

According to the PPRO, detectives swiftly commenced investigation following the complaint and arrested the suspect in possession of the stolen phones.

He added that the victim and the suspect were taken to Darazo General Hospital for medical examination, while their statements were also obtained by the police.

Habib said the suspect allegedly confessed to committing the offences and remained in police custody as of the time of filing the report.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the incident and directed that the case be transferred to the Gender Laboratory of the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation.

The PPRO said the suspect would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

The CP reiterated the command’s zero tolerance for sexual and gender-based violence, urging parents and guardians to remain vigilant about the safety and movements of their children.

He assured members of the public that the command would ensure that justice was served.
