10,000 Nigerians to be trained under new emergency response initiative

The Founder of the Doctors On Call Health Support Initiative, Adejobi Adeloye, has announced plans to train 10,000 Nigerians in emergency response, telehealth coordination, and healthcare support services as part of a nationwide effort to strengthen emergency medical intervention and reduce preventable deaths.

Adeloye disclosed this on Friday in Abuja during the unveiling of the “NovaDOC Integrated Emergency Response and Digital Health Ecosystem,” a new healthcare initiative designed to improve emergency response to road crashes, trauma cases, snakebites, and other medical emergencies across Nigeria.

According to him, the training programme will equip participants with practical emergency response skills while also creating employment opportunities in the healthcare support sector.

“We promised to train 10,000 Nigerians, and we are fulfilling that promise through this initiative,” Adeloye said.

He added that the programme would also produce 1,000 certified facilitators who would sustain emergency response training nationwide through the initiative’s digital learning platform.

The Doctors On Call founder explained that the NovaDOC ecosystem was developed to address persistent gaps in Nigeria’s emergency healthcare system, especially delayed response to accidents and medical emergencies in rural communities and along highways.

“For far too long, our nation has grappled with fragmented emergency response systems, delayed access to care, and preventable deaths.

n

“Today, we are unveiling a revolutionary all-in-one healthcare innovation that addresses these challenges directly and ensures that no Nigerian is left behind during emergencies,” he said.

Nigeria has continued to face major challenges in emergency medical response despite increasing cases of road traffic accidents, insecurity-related injuries, flooding disasters, and snakebite incidents in several parts of the country.

Public health experts and emergency response stakeholders have repeatedly warned that many victims die before reaching hospitals due to poor ambulance systems, inadequate first responders, weak communication infrastructure, and lack of emergency medical tools in public spaces and transport systems.

The Federal Road Safety Corps has also consistently raised concerns over the high number of fatalities recorded on Nigerian roads, with delayed emergency intervention identified as a major factor contributing to avoidable deaths.

Adeloye said the newly launched NovaDOC ecosystem combines emergency medical kits, telehealth services, emergency alerts, and responder coordination into one integrated platform.

According to him, the initiative includes four categories of emergency healthcare kits tailored for different environments.

He explained that the “Car Kit” was designed for private and commercial vehicles to provide immediate trauma support during road accidents and emergencies.

The “Wall Kit,” he said, would be deployed in homes, schools, churches, offices, and public facilities to improve access to first aid and emergency diagnostic support.

He added that the “Mall Kit” was developed for military personnel and first responders operating in high-risk environments, while the “Plane Kit” targets aircraft and luxury transportation systems.

“All four kits are equipped with life-saving supplies, blood pressure and blood sugar monitoring tools, trauma care materials, snakebite treatment support, and emergency alert systems linked directly to the NovaDOC platform,” he stated.

Adeloye further disclosed that the digital platform would connect emergency responders, healthcare facilities, and Nigerian medical professionals in the diaspora to provide real-time emergency consultations and medical guidance.

According to him, emergency alerts generated through the system would immediately notify nearby responders and healthcare providers, helping to reduce response time during emergencies.

“Our goal is to cut emergency response time drastically and ensure that emergency support reaches victims within minutes instead of hours,” he said.

He noted that the initiative is expected to generate 10,000 direct jobs in its first phase, alongside additional indirect employment opportunities in logistics, manufacturing, healthcare support, and emergency services.

Adeloye also appealed for stronger collaboration with the Federal Government, emergency agencies, transport operators, and private organisations to expand the initiative’s nationwide deployment.

According to him, the organisation is engaging Nigerian doctors and healthcare specialists abroad to participate in the telehealth and emergency consultation network.

“Through this system, Nigerian doctors in the diaspora can contribute directly to saving lives back home through real-time emergency support and telemedicine,” he added.

He maintained that the initiative represents more than a healthcare project, describing it as a national movement aimed at improving access to emergency care and strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare resilience.

“This is more than a healthcare intervention. It is a national emergency response movement designed to save lives, empower citizens, and build a more resilient healthcare system for Nigeria,” Adeloye said.
