10 in custody over killing of Benue MACBAN chairman

The Kogi State Police Command has launched a manhunt for three suspects following the death of a 30-year-old primary school teacher who allegedly succumbed to injuries sustained after she was assaulted for disciplining a pupil.
nThe teacher, Maryam Usman, was said to have been attacked on June 18 at Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School, Ugbamaka, in Olamaboro Local Government Area of the state.
nThe command’s spokesperson, SP Oyiza Salisu Afusat, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, saying the case of culpable homicide was reported at the Olamaboro Divisional Police Headquarters on June 25.
nAccording to the statement, preliminary investigation revealed that one Abdullahi Ishaka, accompanied by two women, allegedly stormed the school and assaulted the teacher over the punishment meted out to a pupil.
n“The victim sustained serious injuries and was initially treated at a hospital in Ugbamaka before being referred to Iko-Ojo Hospital, Okpo, for further medical attention. She, however, passed away on June 25, 2026,” the statement read.
nAfusat said detectives visited the scene and the deceased’s residence after the incident was reported, while necessary documentation was carried out.
nShe added that arrangements were ongoing to convey the corpse to the General Hospital, Ankpa, for autopsy.
nThe police spokesperson said the suspects fled before officers arrived at the scene and that efforts were ongoing to apprehend them.
n“Upon their arrest, the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet and comprehensive investigation,” she said.
