Zulum denounces blasts in Maiduguri, urges residents to remain peaceful and be on high alert

Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, has vehemently denounced the explosions that rocked certain areas of the metropolis on Monday evening, while he is currently away in Saudi Arabia for the Lesser Hajj.

Professor Zulum characterized the attack as a reprehensible act of violence, one that is both cruel and cowardly, especially given its occurrence during the sacred month of Ramadan, targeting innocent civilians.

A statement issued by Dauda Iliya, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, urged for heightened alertness and stricter security protocols, particularly in places of worship, as the festive season approaches.

Governor Zulum expressed his profound distress over the explosions that took place on Monday evening, stating that his thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and those who were injured in the blast.

Zulum described the act as utterly condemnable, barbaric, and inhumane, emphasizing the need for collective condemnation of such a heinous act.

The governor attributed the recent increase in attacks to the ongoing intense military operations in the Sambisa forest and other insurgent hideouts, noting that the military and other security agencies are working to contain the situation.

According to Zulum, adequate measures have been implemented to prevent any security breaches in Maiduguri and the entire state, and he assured the people of the state that the situation is under control.

The governor called upon residents to remain calm, carry on with their daily activities, and report any suspicious movements or activities to the security agencies, as a means of supporting the efforts to maintain peace and security.
