Zamfara State Government Modernises Public Health Services with Digital Technology

The Zamfara State Government launched a digital health initiative to improve healthcare delivery across hospitals and health facilities in the state.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, announced the initiative during the One-Day Digital Health Stakeholders’ Engagement Meeting held at the Ministry of Health Conference Hall in Gusau.

Speaking at the opening of the meeting, Dr. Maradun said digitalising the health sector has become necessary to improve access to quality healthcare, strengthen disease surveillance, enhance data management, support evidence-based decision-making, and improve health outcomes across the state.

She said the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal is committed to driving digital transformation in the health sector as part of efforts to build a more efficient, responsive, and resilient healthcare system.

The commissioner noted that while Zamfara has made significant progress in deploying digital health solutions across various health programmes, challenges such as fragmented digital systems, limited interoperability, inadequate coordination, poor digital literacy among health workers, and infrastructure gaps still exist.

She said the stakeholders’ engagement provides an opportunity for government agencies, development partners, health professionals, implementing partners, academia, and other stakeholders to assess the current state of digital health implementation, share experiences, identify priorities, and develop a practical roadmap for strengthening digital health services in the state.
