Zamfara gov’t overhauls healthcare delivery system, begins digitisation of general hospitals

In a grand move to deepen transparency and improve healthcare service delivery, the Zamfara State Government has digitised the General Hospital Gusau as a first step of automating all general hospitals in the state.

The Gusau General Hospital was the first among seven general hospitals in the state to go digital. Other general hospitals in Anka, Maru, Kauran Namoda, Maradun, Nasarawa Burkullu and Yariman Bakura are also being equipped with the system and will be launched in due course.

The feat was achieved courtesy of Governor Dauda Lawal’s Digital Transformation Agenda, which is targeted at changing the way healthcare is managed and delivered in Zamfara State.

These facilities will also be linked to the already deployed Zamfara Drugs Management digital platform, creating a more connected system for managing and supplying medicines and medical consumables.

The initiative will strengthen visibility across the supply chain, improve accountability and help ensure that healthcare facilities have the right supplies when they are needed.

The automation will help modernise hospital administration, improve documentation and record-keeping, enhance accountability, and make healthcare services more efficient.

The digitisation is also expected to minimise reliance on manual processes, reduce delays, improve access to patient information, strengthen revenue monitoring and provide reliable data for effective planning and decision-making.

The digitisation, which goes beyond putting computers in hospitals, is about using technology to improve patient records, reduce unnecessary paperwork, support better decision-making, strengthen accountability and, ultimately, improve the experience and quality of care for our people.

The feat was achieved by inter-agency collaboration between the state Ministry of Health, Hospital Services Management Board, Zamfara Internal Revenue Service, Primary Healthcare Board, and Zamfara Drugs Management Agency.
