Youths apprehend suspect in connection with murder of nursing student in Imo

In the Umuadara, Umulogho community of Obowo Local Government Area in Imo State, a suspect has been taken into custody by local youths in connection with the murder of Wendy Achumba, a student at the College of Nursing, Obowo. The operation was spearheaded by youth leader Chidiebere Iweajunwa, following an investigation conducted by the community's young residents.

A community insider revealed that the suspect, Onyema Okonkwo, was apprehended after a video surfaced online in which he purportedly confessed to the crime. The video interview allegedly contained a detailed account of the events surrounding the student's death.

According to the community source, Onyema Okonkwo claimed that he and an accomplice, identified only as Emmanuel, visited Wendy Achumba's residence on the evening of the incident. At the time, the victim was alone in the house, as her two roommates had temporarily relocated for their nursing practical programme.

The community source further explained that the apartment was originally occupied by three students, but the other two had travelled for their nursing experience, leaving Wendy Achumba as the sole occupant. The source stated, "She was the only one in the house, as the other two had travelled for their nursing experience."

In the viral video, Onyema Okonkwo allegedly admitted to assaulting Wendy Achumba before ultimately killing her. The suspect's purported confession has sent shockwaves through the community, with many calling for justice to be served.

Following his apprehension, Onyema Okonkwo was handed over to the authorities for further investigation and potential prosecution. As of the time of this report, the Nigeria Police Force spokesperson, Henry Okoye, had not responded to enquiries regarding the case.
