Women from Akwa Ibom State throw their support behind Tinubu's bid for another term in office come 2027

Women in Akwa Ibom have pledged their support for President Bola Tinubu's bid for re-election to a second term in 2027, in a show of solidarity with the incumbent leader.

The endorsement was made during a visit by the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, to Uyo, the state capital, where she was received by no fewer than 5,000 women who had gathered to celebrate the 2026 International Women's Day (IWD).

Sen. Tinubu addressed the crowd, highlighting the theme of the 2026 IWD, "Rights, Justice, Action for all Women and Girls", as a rallying cry for collective action to safeguard the rights and interests of women and girls.

She emphasized that investing in the rights of women and girls, including access to education, economic empowerment, healthcare, social protection, and equity, is essential for the country's future prosperity and growth.

The First Lady urged the people of Akwa Ibom to remain united and focused in order to protect the gains achieved by the President Bola Tinubu administration, and to continue building on its legacy.

Sen. Tinubu encouraged the women present to become agents of positive change in their communities, stating that women's leadership can have a profound impact on the entire nation when they lead with purpose.

As part of the celebration, Mrs. Tinubu inaugurated an ultra-modern Senior Citizens Centre named in her honour, which will provide access to healthcare, recreation, and social support for senior citizens in a safe and dignified environment.

According to Mrs. Tinubu, societies that honour their elderly demonstrate a sense of responsibility, gratitude, and continuity, and she urged families and communities to continue showing love and support to their aging parents and relatives.

The centre, conceptualised by the late wife of the state governor, Pastor Patience Eno, is designed to provide a comprehensive range of services and support to senior citizens, and Mrs. Tinubu encouraged other states to emulate this model.

Mrs. Tinubu also encouraged the people of Akwa Ibom to build on the legacies and reforms initiated by the Tinubu administration, which are aimed at creating a lasting legacy of transformation and prosperity for all Nigerians.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended the vital role of women in all aspects of life, particularly in maintaining stability in the home and society, and acknowledged their contributions to the well-being of the nation.

Gov. Umo Eno also spoke, noting that the success of any society is heavily dependent on the contributions and participation of women, and highlighting their importance in shaping the future of the country.

The celebration culminated in the endorsement of President Bola Tinubu and Gov. Umo Eno for a second term in office, as well as the endorsement of Senate President Godswill Akpabio for another term in the Senate, with the declaration read by the state Deputy Governor, Sen. Akon Eyakenyi, alongside other prominent women in the state.
