Wike vows to revamp PDP, align it with the hopes and desires of the Nigerian people

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, has expressed his commitment to rebuilding the Peoples Democratic Party to align with the aspirations of Nigerians, emphasizing the need for a people-centric approach.

At the 10th elective national convention of the party in Abuja on Sunday, Wike, a PDP national leader, underscored the importance of creating legitimate channels for people's voices to be heard and upheld, while paving the path to the future with values of inclusiveness, unity, and renewal.

Wike stated that the party will be rebuilt to meet the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians, with all members working together to achieve this goal, and no one will be excluded from the process, as everyone will be given an equal opportunity to serve in unity and love.

He called on all members to pledge to a renewal of their commitment, loyalty, and dedication to the party, and to commit to a new era of purpose and collective vision, based on the core values enunciated by the party's founding fathers.

The minister described the convention as a gathering of victorious men and women who have remained loyal to the party, and who have overcome a tragic crisis of leadership that threatened to destroy the party.

Wike noted that the party has overcome proponents of ethnic and geographic divisions, and has returned to its rightful owners, the people, which is a fundamental principle upon which the party was built.

He commended the party's loyalists for their exemplary resilience in the face of challenges, and for standing firm despite the betrayal by some leaders and the taunts of naysayers who proclaimed the party dead.

Wike particularly commended members of the party at the grassroots for remaining dedicated to the party, and for praying for a renaissance, which he said has now been answered.

Speaking on the PDP governors who had left the party, Wike said their actions demonstrate a lack of good leadership character, and called on them to return the mandate to the party.

He noted that these governors had achieved their ambitions through the party, but when crises emerged, they ran away, demonstrating a lack of leadership, vision, and courage.

Wike emphasized the importance of demonstrating responsibility and commitment, especially in times of crisis, and cautioned against actors who flee when faced with challenges.
