Wife of Nigerian President Set to Give Spiritual Address at Historic London Residence During British Trip

A historic preaching engagement awaits First Lady Oluremi Tinubu at Lambeth Palace, the official residence of the Archbishop of Canterbury, on Thursday, coinciding with President Bola Tinubu's landmark state visit to the United Kingdom, the country's first in nearly four decades.

President Tinubu and the First Lady touched down in London on Tuesday, arriving at Stansted Airport, marking the beginning of their significant visit to the UK.

As part of her itinerary, the First Lady is slated to meet with representatives of the Church of England on the same day she is scheduled to preach, according to the official programme reported by AFP.

On Wednesday, President Tinubu and his wife are set to meet with King Charles III, as outlined in the official programme.

The presidential couple will also have an audience with Prince William, the heir to the throne, accompanied by his wife, Catherine, Princess of Wales, before joining him on a trip to Windsor.

A state banquet is scheduled to be hosted by King Charles in honour of the Nigerian president at Windsor Castle, where the monarch is expected to receive President Tinubu.

The state visit takes place against the backdrop of blossoming diplomatic relations between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

A strategic partnership agreement was signed by both countries in November 2024, aimed at bolstering cooperation in key areas such as trade, security, and migration.

High on the agenda for discussions are British-backed port development projects in Nigeria and bilateral trade, which surged to £8.1 billion (approximately $11 billion) in the year to September 2025, representing an 11.4 per cent year-on-year increase.
