President Bola Tinubu says his administration is making significant investments in infrastructure and housing access across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to deliver on the promises of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Tinubu, represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, stated this on Friday while inaugurating a newly constructed 10.5-kilometre road network in Karsana District, Abuja.

The road project comprises arterial roads N11, N16 and N40, as well as Special Important Local Street 03, linking the Renewed Hope City and Estates in Karsana West to other parts of Abuja.

According to the president, the roads connect Karsana West to the Outer Northern Motorway, also known as the Murtala Mohammed Motorway, improving access to thousands of affordable housing units.

“By linking Karsana West to the Outer Northern Motorway, also known as the Murtala Mohammed Motorway, we have made thousands of affordable housing units accessible, liveable, and safe.

n

“This is renewed hope on the ground. It means less time in traffic, lower vehicle costs, safer movement at night, and the dignity of arriving at your doorstep without a struggle.

“When I performed the groundbreaking for the 3,112-unit Renewed Hope City here in Karsana, I gave one clear directive: provide the roads, provide the engineering infrastructure, and unlock this district for development.

“Housing without access is a blueprint without a building. For too long, Abuja’s story was ‘awarded and abandoned’. Today, we are ending that story with roads that open, not ones that stall,” he said.

Tinubu said the Renewed Hope Agenda was focused on identifying development challenges, funding practical solutions, supervising projects and ensuring their completion for public benefit.

“Renewed Hope is not a slogan. It is a method we practise: identify the bottleneck, fund the solution, supervise the work, and finish what we started.

“That method is turning Abuja into a city where infrastructure keeps pace with ambition,” he said.

He added that timely provision of roads, lighting and other infrastructure strengthened public confidence in government and improved the quality of life for residents.

The president commended the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr Nyesom Wike, for facilitating access to residential areas that were previously difficult to reach.

“Wike, you have earned my trust, and you have my commendation,” the president said.

In his remarks, Wike recalled that there was no access road to the 3,112-unit Renewed Hope City when the project was inaugurated, making movement difficult for residents.

“There is no road. It was terrible, and I was wondering how people living in the area could access their homes, and we decided we would construct access roads, and today we are inaugurating the roads.

n

“However, this was feasible because of the support of Mr President”, he said.

The minister said the project reflected the federal government’s commitment to infrastructure development, adding that no previous administration had invested in the FCT and satellite towns at the current scale.

Also speaking, the Minister of State for FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, described the roads as critical infrastructure that would promote economic growth and improve residents’ quality of life.

Mahmoud said the project demonstrated the federal government’s commitment to building a modern, accessible and inclusive capital city where every community benefited from development efforts.

She added that the Renewed Hope Agenda had continued to translate policy objectives into tangible infrastructure projects, particularly in the area of transportation and urban development.

Earlier, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, Mr Richard Dauda, said the road project was awarded in February 2025.

Dauda explained that Arterial Road N40 was a major transverse route in Phase Four of the Federal Capital City, extending from the Outer Northern Motorway to the Northern Parkway.

He added that arterial roads N11 and N16 are key longitudinal routes traversing several districts from Phase One through Phase Four, improving connectivity across the city. (NAN)
