‘We throttled the teenager to death after he identified us’ – Abductors of 17-year-old youth

Emotions reached a boiling point on Wednesday as Anthony Oghenetega, a 21-year-old suspect, revealed the shocking details of how 17-year-old Thomson Adams was lured to an apartment in Ikorodu, Lagos, on Monday, April 29, only to be restrained and strangled.

The suspect's confession exposed a sinister plot to abduct the teenager, record him in chains, and then demand a ransom from his parents in exchange for his release, but the plan took a deadly turn due to fears that the victim could expose them.

Anthony Oghenetega and his accomplice, 23-year-old Elijah Emmanuel, had allegedly been involved in multiple kidnapping and murder cases in the state before their arrest by the Lagos State Police Command.

According to Commissioner of Police CP Tijani Fatai, the suspects were apprehended on April 27, 2026, at about 8 p.m., in the Lucy Fibre Area of Ikorodu, Lagos, following credible intelligence gathered by the Command's operatives.

The suspects, Elijah Emmanuel and Tony Ekwane Oghanetega, were found to be linked to the kidnapping and murder of Thomson Omokhafe Adams, which occurred on April 22, 2026, as well as another kidnapping and murder case on November 30, 2025, where a ransom of ₦300,000 was paid by the victim's family.

Anthony Oghanetega explained that the decision to kill Thomson Adams was made because his associate, Elijah, believed the victim could expose them, knowing his house and family well.

Oghanetega revealed that Elijah had lured the victim to his apartment, where they had prepared chains, padlocks, and a 'Ghana-must-go' bag, and that he had used a conga as a weapon while his associate used a stick with nails.

The suspects had made a video of the victim in chains, intended to be sent to his parents, and after switching off the lights, Oghanetega strangled the victim from behind, but became weak and had Elijah finish the job.

After the victim's death, the suspects tied his body and placed it in the 'Ghana-must-go' bag, which Elijah then carried out of the compound, disguising their movement by carrying music equipment and hiring motorcyclists to avoid suspicion.

The suspects eventually dumped the body in a bush, and according to CP Fatai, they will be charged to court for their crimes.
