President Bola Tinubu has underscored the Federal Government's unwavering dedication to bolstering national security and investing in human capital as a means to drive sustainable development, a commitment he reaffirmed during the inauguration of the Gateway International Airport, Iperu, a flagship project of the Ogun State Government, on Saturday.

Tinubu emphasized that the government remains resolute in its determination to vanquish banditry and terrorism, offering assurances to citizens that the ongoing measures will yield positive results, as he confidently stated, "We will win over banditry and terrorism."

The president highlighted the vital role of infrastructure projects in strengthening the country's economic corridors, and praised Gov. Dapo Abiodun for his transformative efforts in Ogun State, particularly in the aviation sector, through the development of the Gateway International Airport, Iperu.

President Tinubu commended Abiodun for justifying the confidence reposed in him by the president and the people of Ogun State, expressing his sincere appreciation for the opportunity to celebrate the governor's remarkable vision and the state's progress.

He congratulated the people of Ogun State for supporting a government that is delivering measurable progress, and thanked them for their continued faith in the country, while also acknowledging that his administration's investments are people-centred.

Tinubu noted that the Gateway Airport is connected to investments in gas and energy, and praised Abiodun's commitment to development, as evident in his various projects, including the airport, which is part of the state's economic nerve centre.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo thanked Tinubu for attending the event, describing it as a significant occasion in the state's history, and commended Abiodun for building the airport, which he described as a landmark project.

Obasanjo shared his personal experience of landing at the airport, which took him 45 minutes to get to his home, a journey that would have taken at least 25 minutes longer if he had landed in Lagos, and expressed his pride in the governor's achievement.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio lauded Tinubu for his reforms, which have enabled states to pay salaries without owing, and commended Abiodun for the judicious use of increased federal allocations.

Abiodun praised the president for placing the nation on the path of sustainable growth through his economic reforms, which have repositioned Nigeria as a competitive destination, and hailed the president's Renewed Hope Agenda as a catalyst for the country's growth.

The Gateway International Airport, according to Abiodun, will handle commercial flights to Abuja, feature a nearly 4km runway for large aircraft, and boast a modern control tower, advanced aviation systems, and cargo-handling infrastructure, making it a hub for business and logistics.

Abiodun highlighted the state's progress in road infrastructure, with over 1,600km of constructed or rehabilitated roads, including notable projects such as the Epe-Ijebu Ode expressway, Sagamu Interchange–Papalanto Expressway, and the Sagamu–Iperu–Ode Remo–Sapade expressway, now renamed the Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressway.
