The Itsekiri National Youth Council (INYC) has rejected fresh proposed ward delineation in the Warri Federal Constituency, describing the exercise as unacceptable, provocative, and inconsistent with the historical and demographic realities of the area.

In a statement signed by the INYC president Comrade Appearance Afejuke noted that the proposed delineation by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), undermines the political representation and ancestral identity of Itsekiri communities across Warri North, Warri South, and Warri South-West Local Government Areas of Delta State.

According to him, the Itsekiri people have continued to maintain a longstanding historical presence in the Warri axis, and any attempt to distort that reality through electoral delineation would be resisted because INEC, in the course of its field operations and GIS mapping, appears to have exceeded its constitutional mandate.

“We call on INEC to immediately review the proposed delineation and ensure that the questions rised earlier by the Itsekiri people about the credibility, legality, and technical integrity of the exercise be investigated.

“We also appealed to the Federal Government, relevant authorities, to intervene constructively in order to avoidable tension in the region.

“We urged Itsekiri youths to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding as we call on INEC to come back to the region to carryout legal and proper delineation exercise”.
